Frequently Asked Questions

Due to the ageing population, the demand for Aged Care workers is rapidly increasing. This growth means more job opportunities for students just starting Aged Care careers. Your potential contribution to this field is significant. The need for skilled professionals will only grow as the market is expected to continue increasing in the coming years. This also underscores the increased need for high-quality, professional Aged Care training.

Insight Training offers hands-on training that prepares students to work effectively in the Aged Care industry. We have experienced instructors who provide personalised attention to each student, ensuring they receive the support they need to succeed. Our Aged Care Certificate program also includes practical work placement opportunities, allowing students to gain real-world experience in a supportive environment. The curriculum covers essential topics such as communication skills, promoting independence, and understanding the needs of elderly individuals.

The role of an Individual Support Worker is to assist vulnerable individuals with everyday tasks to improve their quality of life. This could include personal care, meal planning, grocery shopping, medication administration, housekeeping, managing communications, accompanying clients to medical appointments, organising outings, and supporting other family members during visits.

After completing the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (ageing) course, students are prepared to:

  • Perform specialised tasks in Aged Care settings
  • Empower older individuals
  • Support people with dementia
  • Deliver palliative care services
  • Lead a team of care workers

After completing a CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) with Insight Training, you can complete a CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support or pursue a career in many different avenues, from being an Aged Care Worker, Program Coordinator or Supervisor.

Most Aged Care facilities expect their team members to have CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) as a minimum requirement for employment. While you may find some Home and Community Care roles are less stringent, many skills acquired during the course are transferable and will benefit your career in healthcare, whatever your role.

The course related to this is a CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing). Currently, you can complete this Certificate at no cost as part of the WA government’s Fee Free initiative.

Duty of care is an individual’s obligation towards others, adhering to certain standards to ensure their safety. In Aged Care, a worker must provide the necessary care to help older Australians maintain their health and live safely.

Insight Training will source work placement for you if you are not currently working in the Aged Care industry. An Aged Care course requires students to complete 120 logged working hours within an Approved Service. Students already working in an Aged Care facility when they begin the course are recommended to complete their work placement at the same facility.

According to online job posting site Seek, the average salary for an Aged Care Worker in Australia in 2023 ranges between $60k and $70k per year.

In July 2023, the government acted on advice from a Fair Work Commission to implement an awards structure for Aged Care Workers, increasing the hourly rate by 15%. As an example, the new minimum rate for an Aged Care Worker classed as providing Direct Care Level 1 under the Aged Care Award MA000018 is $27.57 per hour*. This rate increases for workers providing higher levels of Direct Care.

While the Aged Care profession comes with many challenges, there is much to be gained by helping the vulnerable and changing lives. A career in Aged Care is likely to suit you if you are compassionate, empathetic, and a hard worker.

Before starting your career, you must consider how comfortable you are providing highly personal care to others. Aged Care workers often assist with highly-personal needs – like hygiene and toilet use. However, Aged Care courses will train you to perform these skills effectively and help build your resilience to cope with challenging situations.

Overall, Aged Care work is demanding but extremely rewarding. If you are looking for a dynamic job where you will make a difference, Aged Care is a good fit for you.

At Insight Training, we aim to get every student skilled and ready for practical work as quickly as possible. While the length of our courses differs depending on the qualification, the average time to complete an Aged Care Course is 17 weeks, including placement (but the time varies based on your individual circumstances).

Insight Training offers a variety of courses that prepare you for a job in the Aged Care industry. If you are just beginning your career journey, we recommend taking one of our Certificate II or III courses first, choosing from the below options:

When you have completed a Certificate III course, further study is available through the following course:

While Aged Care work can be challenging, Insight Training is committed to providing study time you will find enjoyable. Our Certificate III courses require no prior education or training, giving you a fresh start to work towards your desired career. We also offer various student support services, such as our mental health and counselling program, designed to support you during your time learning.
