The allied health sector in Australia is experiencing significant growth and recognition, making it an ideal time to embark on a career in this field. From substantial pay increases to enhanced professional development opportunities, both New South Wales and Western Australia are leading the way in supporting allied health professionals.
A Boost for Allied Health Professionals
Allied health workers are the backbone of our healthcare system, providing essential support in areas such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, community rehabilitation, and more. Recent agreements in both New South Wales and Western Australia underscore the value placed on these roles.
Western Australia: Advancements in Allied Health
In Western Australia, the Health Services Union of Western Australia (HSUWA) secured a significant pay increase for public sector health workers, including allied health professionals. The Union Agreement 2024, lodged with the WA Industrial Relations Commission and awaiting registration, will result in pay increases ranging from $8,071 to $25,080, depending on the role and classification. These increases are set to take effect from July 1, 2025.
The agreement also introduces a $1,000 professional development allowance, paid fortnightly, to support ongoing education and skill development for allied health professionals. Additionally, a 4% base pay increase is scheduled, along with a 30% night shift penalty.
Furthermore, the WA Health System -HSUWA – PACTS Industrial Agreement 2024, registered in March 2025, outlines the employment terms for allied health professionals under the Health Service Union (HSU) of Western Australia Award (Specified Callings). This agreement provides a framework for salaries, benefits, and working conditions for allied health staff across WA Health services.
