Course Requirements

Entry Requirements
The CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care consists of a range of practical tasks and in order to meet workplace experience and job role expectations, students should be physically, mentally and emotionally healthy to meet duty of care obligations.
For example, the student would need to have the ability to respond appropriately to children’s needs, remain calm in high stress situations and to interact and communicate appropriately where difficulty or danger arises.
Students should also have a reasonable level of fitness to cope with physical demands such as standing, lifting, bending, twisting and reaching.
Minimum Age
You will need to be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18 your enrolment form will need to be signed by a parent or guardian. Section 120 of the Education and Care National Regulations 2011 requires the approved provider of a centre-based service must ensure that any educator at the service who is under 18 years of age:
- does not work alone at the service; and
- is adequately supervised at all times by an educator who has attained the age of 18 years.

Students will be required to complete and pass a Working with Children Check/Police Clearance in the state or territory that they are working in prior to commencing child related work (this includes work placement). - Students existing ability in the ACSF core skills, (learning, reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy)

To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 160 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.
